SEOHEE Construction Co., Ltd., a longstanding South Korean construction and engineering company, has been involved in innovative waste-to-energy infrastructure projects that include the deployment of DRANCO systems for the treatment of organic waste in urban environments. One notable example is the Dongdaemun (Seoul) DRANCO biogas plant, where SEOHEE applied this advanced technology to process municipal organic waste and convert it into renewable energy.
The DRANCO system excels at handling high-solids organic materials, such as food and garden waste, in a vertical, high-solids reactor. This process operates without internal mechanical mixing: feedstock is introduced at the top and gradually moves downward by gravity while microorganisms break it down in the absence of oxygen, producing biogas rich in methane.
In the Seohee-built DRANCO facility in Seoul, the system was adapted to address the challenges of treating larger volumes of urban biowaste in a dense city centre. To manage potential odour concerns in a populated area, the plant was engineered with underground construction and dedicated ventilations and gas exhaust treatment systems — demonstrating how DRANCO technology can be integrated into urban waste management schemes.
