Launched in 2015, the Bourg-en-Bresse facility stands as a regional benchmark in sustainable waste management. Operated by Paprec Energies, the plant processes up to 66.000 tonnes of municipal solid waste (MSW) and 7.500 tonnes of green waste annually.
With a digestion capacity of 40.000 tonnes per year and a reactor volume of 3.450 m³, the site integrates advanced technology to recover green electricity. A key innovation is the implementation of the SORDISEP process, a wet separation technique which enables the production of high-quality compost (picture below), refuse-derived fuel (RDF, containing light textiles and plastics) and a heavy inert fraction from the digestate, enhancing material recovery and reducing landfill dependency.
