From energy crops to energy.
Since about 20 years, local farmers and DRANCO are operating this DRANCO-FARM plant.
Commissioned in 2006, the Nüstedt installation was one of the first continuous dry‑digestion plants operating on energy crops in Europe, marking an important milestone for DRANCO technology. The plant operates with a vertical DRANCO‑FARM digester and can treat approximately 20,000 tons of energy crops and harvest residues per year.
The Nüstedt installation generates around 1 MW of electrical power, contributing renewable energy to the local grid. Its continuous plug‑flow digestion system ensures stable operation with minimal maintenance inside the reactor thanks to the absence of internal mixing equipment. Digestate from the process can be further treated or applied as a soil improver, supporting circular agricultural practices. The plant showcases the advantages of DRANCO‑FARM technology, including compact design, high biogas yields, and strong operational reliability. Overall, the Nüstedt facility demonstrates how dry anaerobic digestion can efficiently transform crop residues into sustainable energy while supporting regional resource recovery.
