Kaiserslautern

  • Digestion capacity: 20.000 tpy
  • Feedstock: Biowaste
  • Output: Electricity
  • Startup: 1999
  • Client: Zweckverband Abfallwirtschaft Kaiserslautern
  • Location: Germany

Biowaste collected from the city and surrounding districts is delivered to the site and fed directly into the press, which separates biowaste into coarse and fine fractions. The fine fraction is anaerobically digested via the DRANCO process to produce biogas for energy generation. The coarse fraction is mixed with digestate and aerobically treated to ensure effective stabilization and homogenization.

After mixing, the biowaste undergoes aerobic composting in enclosed boxes, where biological activity ensures hygienization at temperatures above 60 °C. The material is subsequently matured in windrows and repeatedly turned to complete the composting process.
