DRANCO, a unique continuous high-solid digestion technology

The DRANCO process is an advanced one-phase, continuous dry digestion process designed for an environmentally friendly and cost-effective treatment of organics.

This technique is built to do more with less: more biogas, more stability and more value from organic waste paired with low energy and water demand, low maintenance and a compact footprint. The process is automated, pathogen-reducing, and highly reliable, with a single digester capable of processing up to 60,000 tons of household organic waste annually.

The focus of our technology

The DRANCO technology is a high-solids, one-phase continuous process. All biological steps occur inside one gas-tight reactor (digester) that remains closed, avoiding fugitive odours and gas emissions. The process reliability is high compared to other digestion technologies.

The DRANCO process handles a wide range of waste streams (from SSO and OFMSW*) to industrial by-products and dewatered sludge) remaining stable even with fluctuating compositions or higher contamination levels. By keeping the total solids content in the reactor high, the sedimentation and flotation problems are avoided.

(*) SSO = source separated organics / OFMSW = the organic fraction of municipal solid waste

The design behind the process

We use a vertical plug-flow reactor supported by intensive external recirculation. Fresh waste is blended with digestate in a closed chamber and pumped to the top of the reactor, while gravity moves the mass downward and biogas rises naturally. With no internal mixers, no gas injection and no moving parts inside the tank, the system has a low maintenance need throughout its lifetime.

Efficiency and added value

Efficiency and
 added value

The DRANCO process delivers high biogas production with minimal energy input and maintenance. Its compact vertical design keeps the footprint small, while stable high-solids digestion and intensive recirculation ensure consistent performance across a wide range of feedstocks. Operators process more material without dilution, recover more energy, and run a robust installation that stays reliable year after year.
